KANYE: The Southern District Council (SDC) appears to be winning the battle against school dropouts at primary, junior and senior secondary school levels, though statistics show a marginal decline.

A lessened number of dropouts was recorded from 526 in 2015 to a total of 230 in the year 2016. SDC chairperson, Alec Seametso noted, though grudgingly, during a full council meeting here Monday that the region continues to make strides in strengthening available interventions to curb the situation.

Seametso said quitting is due to pregnancy, ill-health, death and unknown desertion.
