Maoto calls for a third term

If the MP for Francistown South, Khumo Maoto had things his own way, President Festus Mogae could not be going next year.

Mogae will be retiring next year after completing his 10 year presidential term. Maoto told parliament this week that he wants the presidential term of office to be increased to 15 years. The Francistown MP was responding to President Mogae's state of the nation speech. 

The Francistown legislator said the current 10-years presidential term is too short. He said the presidents retire when they are still young when they could have contributed more to the development of the country.
