Man acquitted of arson, guilty of manslaughter

FRANCISTOWN: A 24-year-old Palapye man escaped the hangman’s noose on Wednesday after his murder charge was reduced from murder to manslaughter. The accused, Rebaone Ntobedzi, was found guilty of killing his girlfriend, Gaone Metseyabeng, at Serorome ward on April 19, 2010 in Palapye after their love relationship turned sour.

He was also charged with setting fire to a house belonging to Metseyabeng’s parents.

Delivering judgement, Justice Barnabas Nyamadzabo said that the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and gave unsworn evidence.
