The Member of Parliament for Shoshong, Phillip Makgalemele, has called on the Parliamentary Committee on Statutory Bodies to pursue P100 million owed by the University of Botswana (UB).

Commenting on the adoption of the inaugural report of the Parliamentary Committee on Statutory Bodies that is headed by the MP for Gaborone West North Robert Masitara, Makgalemele said UB debt is of great concern. He applauded Air Botswana for purchasing a new aircraft because he said this would ensure air travel safety, citing the aborting of an Air Botswana due to engine problems on takeoff recently.

With regard to Botswana Meat Commission (BMC), the MP raised concerns that a London-based BMC subsidiary's books of account are missing and that the company has not ben audited for the past four years. Addressing the recommendations of the report on salaries of statutory bodies, Makgalemele said they should be questioned broadly because they are failing to pay dividends to government. He said their salaries should not be compared with parastatals.
