Mahalapye mob beats 'rape suspect' to death

A 30-year-old man of Mahalapye, who is suspected to be behind a series of rape incidents in the village, has met his maker after he was attacked and beaten to death by an angry mob.

The mob of Thomadithotse ward, Mahalapye allegedly attacked and dragged the deceased to the river on Thursday night, assaulted and inflicted serious injuries on him until he was rescued by the arrival of the police. He was rushed to Mahalapye Hospital where hours later he succumbed to the injuries.

Reached for comment, Mahalapye Police Station commander, Superintendent Omphile Malemenyane confirmed the deceased was wanted for several rape cases and was beaten to death by the angry mob. “The deceased succumbed to the injuries on Friday morning at around 3am at Mahalapye Hospital while still receiving medical assistance. We received a phone call being notified about the incident, rushed to the crime scene whereupon arrival we found the deceased lying unconscious and rushed him to the hospital,” he said.
