Police in Jwaneng are investigating a case in which a 39-year-old man allegedly murdered his 31-year-old partner last weekend at Machana Lands.

Confirming the incident to Mmegi Online, Jwaneng Police Station commander, Superintendent Thuso Basuti affirmed the tragic death following a dispute between the individuals involved.

"It is indeed the case that we are handling a homicide that occurred on September 21, 2023, after a conflict between two individuals in a romantic relationship. This distressing event transpired at Machana Lands and the victim was a 31-year-old woman," Basuti said.

Basuti explained that the boyfriend of the deceased woman confronted her and, following their altercation, inflicted mortal wounds.

"The suspect ambushed his girlfriend and inflicted fatal injuries upon her with a sharp object," he said.

Upon discovering the victim in a grievous state, the police promptly transported her to the nearest medical facility.

"She had suffered substantial blood loss, necessitating her immediate transfer to the hospital. Regrettably, she was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital," Basuti added.

He further disclosed that the suspect in this matter was arrested on the same day and currently remains in custody.

"The suspect appeared before the magistrate's court yesterday, where bail was denied. Consequently, he continues to be held in custody," Basuti conveyed.

In a plea to the public, Basuti implored individuals to pursue peaceful coexistence and to refrain from engaging in disputes that have the potential to culminate in such tragic and fatal outcomes.
