Lawyers in last ditch effort to save death row inmate

Lawyers for death row inmate Zibani Thamo, who was sentenced to death on what they termed circumstantial evidence, are making last ditch efforts to save his life.

Appearing before a panel of three Court of Appeal judges, Moabi Madandume, for Thamo, said the conviction against his client was not safe. Madandume argued that the court erred by relying on the states case to the effect that Thamo was the one who led police officers to different spots where he had buried the dismembered body parts of the diseased.

"The police drove there in two separate vehicles. If he were the one showing the police the spots, they should have followed the vehicle Thamo was in. In fact he denies ever showing the police the shallow graves," Madandume contended.
