Lawyer on his knees for 'broken' client

FRANCISTOWN: An attorney laid down his client's mitigating factors passionately before court as he pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.

Shathiso Nlegwa of Ndawana and Company appeared with his client Malebogo Besi before Justice Phadi Solomon for sentencing for allegedly causing the death of her new born baby in 2008. In mitigation, Nlegwa said that his client has encountered too many misfortunes and stress.  He told the court that the accused is a mother to a 10-year-old boy and that she is also an orphan.

"She is the sole caretaker of the minor child and she also has an unemployed younger brother," he said.Information before court is that Besi caused the death of her new born baby while her mind was disturbed because she had not yet fully recovered from the effect of the birth.
