SEROWE: There is a popular story in Serowe about a man who once shot at Tshekedi Khama from a hill. Tshekedi was sitting at the kgotla about 800 metres from the hill.

While he missed, Tshekedi was slightly injured, not so another man who bore the brunt of the shot and suffered serious injuries. The would-be assasin was none other than Obiditse Ratshosa, one of the Ratshosa brothers, sons of Khama III's first daughter Besi. The motive, so goes the story, is that they hated the way Tshekedi was running things in Serowe. 

As I stood upon this historic hill, I was taken back in time to the tender age of six in January 1987 when I fetched stones from Tshekedi's hill. This was the norm until October 1993, as it was every student's duty to come with 'konkreite' everyday to Khama Memorial School.
