FRANCISTOWN: The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) councilor, Mothusi Molodi, tragically lost his life Saturday evening in a car accident.

His death was confirmed by Botswana National Front’s (BNF) secretary-general Ketlhalefile Motshegwa in an interview with The Monitor.

The BNF is a contracting partner in the UDC. Molodi served as a council member for Khwee ward in the Boteti East constituency, Motshegwa said. He was elected to the council in 2022 through a by-election following the passing of another BNF councillor, Keeketile Gobotswang. According to reports, the accident happened near the DK Mine on the Letlhakane-Serowe route, where the car allegedly overturned, resulting in the tragic death of the councillor.

Condolence messages for Molodi's family have flooded social media. Letlhakane Police Station acting commander, Assistant Superintendent Tsholofelo Masole told The Monitor an investigation is underway into the car accident that led to the death of the local leader. Amongst the five occupants were two men and three women. They are still receiving treatment at Letlhakane Primary Hospital.

The group was en route from Malatswai to Letlhakane village when the incident occurred during a road traffic operation, according to the acting station commander. The operation was initiated due to an increasing number of traffic accidents in the assigned policing region.
