Khama threatens Mmolotsi with recall?

In a bizarre turn of events the Botswana Democratic Party president Ian Khama is said to have given Francistown South candidate Wynter Mmolotsi a warning letter.

In the run-up to the Kanye congress, which elected the new BDP Central Committee, the youthful Mmolotsi, who is associated with the Barata-Phathi, and who was accused of being divisive and sidelining other BDP operatives in his constituency, had to face Khama and Central Committee members and threatened with a possible recall from standing for general elections.

The Central Committee later advised Khama to make further investigations into the matter and come up with a decision on Mmolotsi. Two weeks ago Mmolotsi, together with his factional colleagues won Central Committee positions in Kanye in a whitewash and some people thought Mmolotsi's issue would die away. In an interview yesterday BDP executive secretary Dr Comma Serema said that after Khama had concluded further investigations, he "gave Mmolotsi a warning letter on Tuesday".
