Khama names new envoys to Nigeria and Brazil

President Ian Khama has appointed the director of public relations, research and information in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Clifford Maribe as Botswana's High Commissioner to Nigeria.

Maribe has spent the past 19 years working in the ministry. He started as a foreign affairs officer and rose through the ranks, serving as a second secretary at the Botswana embassy in China and later first secretary. He has also worked at the Botswana mission in Washington DC, United States. He was appointed deputy director of public relations, research and information at the ministry's headquarters before finally heading the department.  "It is an honour for me. I feel privileged to go and serve my country as an envoy to Nigeria. I have served in the Foreign Affairs Ministry all my life since I graduated from the university. It is this experience gleaned over the years that I think will help me carry out my duties well," he said.

Another diplomat who has been promoted to ambassador is Diabi Mmualefe. He will be Botswana's ambassador to Brazil. Mmualefe has been the Ministry of Foreign Affairs acting corporate services manager. He joined the ministry in 1995 as a foreign affairs officer and later worked as first secretary at Botswana's embassy in Ethiopia. He has also served at the Botswana mission in Stockholm, Sweden.
