Khama invites Ouattara for state visit

President Ian Khama has invited claimant to the disputed Ivory Coast presidency, Alassane Ouattara, to Botswana.

According to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation press statement, President Khama has invited Ouattara to come on a state visit in recognition of his victory in "the presidential elections in Cote d'Ivore held on the 28th November 2010".

Khama is said to have discussed the matter of the visit with Ouattara and the two had agreed that the visit should take place at a mutually convenient time. "They further agreed to strengthen and deepen cooperation between the two countries in the future. Botswana continues to support all efforts aimed at ensuring that Ouattara assumes the presidency in Cote d'Ivore," reads the statement.
