KDC pays gratuity to ex-industrial class workers

The Kgatleng District Council (KDC) chairman, Tona Mooketsi has revealed that the long delayed payment of gratuity to former industrial class employees has been settled.

Speaking during a full council meeting this week he said all employees have been paid except two, whose cases will be resolved soon.He said that a total of P5,967,558.05 has been used to pay the gratuity. “Much as we are delighted that we have managed to pay the long overdue debt, it is unfortunate that our efforts to secure funds from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to pay these employees have not borne any fruit,” he said.

However, he added that they will continue to dialogue with the ministry over the matter. He explained that they have run out of funds, forcing them to defer the maintenance programme because it is not provided for in the recurrent budget. He said the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) demarcation report will be published next month. Therefore, he appealed to councillors to assist in educating the public on the new political boundaries. He said voter registration scheduled for October this year will be based on the newly identified polling districts and polling stations.
