Katse is one of the aspirants who want to contest the by election

While the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has decided on a consensus candidate, five Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) members, amongst them Elijah Katse, have submitted their names as possible replacement of late Tlokweng legislator Same Bathobakae.

Kenneth Segokgo, a former secondary school teacher and now a businessman would represent the UDC.

Katse was disqualified from standing in the BDP primaries ahead of the 2014 general elections over alleged malpractice. Katse and others, who were willing to contest for council seats then, were accused of violating the party constitution and primary elections code of conduct. Other hopefuls are Thulaganyo Segokgo, Nkanyang Seitshiro, Mantle Matlapeng and Dr Phineas Molefe.  According to a source within BDP, the branch committee had given the five hopeful candidates up to January 7, to agree on whom they think could represent the party better.
