Judge upholds sentence in robbery Case

FRANCISTOWN: A judge here on Thursday upheld a 10-year jail term for a man who robbed a female taxi driver of P320 on April 7, 2010.

According to particulars of the matter, the convict Tsogang Outule and his friend Martin Mauwe boarded a taxi to Selepa on the night of the offence. When they reached Selepa, they attacked the driver of the taxi and took the money she made during the day as well as some money from her handbag.

In the initial stages of the trial, Outule said he admitted to have committed the crime hoping that he will be given a lenient sentence. However, his friend denied the charges levelled against him.In his defence, Outule told the court that he was not accorded a fair trial by the lower court.  He also said he was not properly advised by the court about his rights and the consequences of making a confession.
