Joina wants social democratic parties to unite

FRANCISTOWN: Leader of MELS Movement, Themba Joina has called on all social democratic parties to re-unite to resist the onslaught from the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

In a statement about the recent general elections, Joina said scientific socialists and progressives should rally behind his party to wage serious war against neo-colonialism and capitalism. He said that the programme of petty-bourgeois parties must be exposed through public education.

"MELS must realise that it is on its own, however, it must accept genuine allies that cannot attempt to compromise its programme. Intellectuals who criticise us as political analysts must be left alone. Our duty is to protect them and allow them more freedom, however we must keep focused on our task - so far history shows that we are on the right track as workers begin to realise that we are their party," said Joina.
