Inside the UB crisis

The University of Botswana is dying a slow death. Since being hijacked by an executive culture, which has seen academics become subservient to management executives, the University has been in a state of crisis, Mmegi has learnt.

At the heart of the problem is a tussle over the control of the University between the academics and the team of management executives. This research seems to tally with an independent enquiry into the workings of the UB, conducted by the Centre for Higher Education Transformation, which found that UB had a high number of management executives compared to academic staff.
