Illegal Immigrants Battle

BOROLONG: In real war, it would be referred to as a mopping up operation - as security forces appear to be winning their intermittent battles against illegal immigrants in Borolong.

Most of the illegal immigrants are Zimbabweans who have fled economic hardships in their country and are working illegally as maids (if they are female) or as herd boys and gardeners in Borolong.

At times the police, soldiers and immigration officials, who are working in conjunction with cluster groups in the village, are accused of heavy-handedness- either beating the immigrants or arresting them indiscriminately. Some Zimbabweans say they have been arrested even though they had proper documents. But they (the police and soldiers) have always denied such accusations, saying they only apply minimum force on those who either resist arrest or take to their heels whenever they are to be arrested.
