IEC welcomes elections audit

While the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is facing a legal suit over refusal to have an independent audit of the 2019 general elections, its acting Secretary Doreen Lame Serumula has said, “there is no harm” in carrying an elections audit.

The Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF), which contested the general elections for the first time last year, had written to the IEC requesting it to conduct an independent audit of the 2019 General Elections after several petitions were launched by main opposition Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).

The election petitions were later dismissed with costs at the High Court.
