HR practitioners encouraged to lead by example

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs Relations, Jimmy Opelo has challenged HR professionals to become the custodians of workplace justice and performance.

Speaking at the eighth strategic HR conference held recently, Opelo said this should be embedded in legal reforms into organisational culture and practice.

He highlighted that as Botswana recovers from recent economic shocks and pivots to a knowledge-based economy, the conference underscored HR’s frontline role as not just job creation but fostering meaningful, future-oriented employment for a diverse talent pool.

A promising step for public schools, but...

For too long, the state of many public schools has been a source of shame. We have all seen the pictures and heard the stories of broken windows, unreliable water and electricity, topped by classrooms that are not fit for proper learning. The establishment of the Education Infrastructure and Management Company Ltd (EIMC) signals that authorities are finally ready to take this problem seriously.
