On Monday August 4, 2008, a half-page teaser advert showing a huge baobab tree under a blue sky with the words: “It has survived 24 dry seasons, 12 floods, 6 veld fires, and more herds of elephant than anymore can remember. A symbol of our stability,” appeared in The Monitor.

The following day in the Tuesday Mmegi, a different teaser avert appeared showing a cow with arc raised horns, grass in its mouth with the words: “It is a sign of wealth, a provider of sustenance and the grandmother of a half a herd. The symbol of our sacrifice”. 

In the Wednesday Mmegi of that week, the teaser carried an image of a fully-grown sorghum head held by two hands in a field. Below the sorghum head were the words; “The fruit of our labour, the seeds of the future. The symbol of our potential”.
