Green pastures for Africa at NEPAD

BLANTYRE: Great opportunities do exist for Africa to eradicate poverty and sustain high economic growth and development but only if countries pay particular attention to development programmes that address key sectors of growth and human resource development.

The New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) secretariat official, Sloans Chimatiro, said during the Malawi National Stakeholder engagement that Africa is constrained by lack of common and strategic understanding of the scientific challenges faced by various sectors.

He also added that in many African countries there is a systematic fragmentation between knowledge, innovation and overall national development strategies. "Therefore, Africa has not been able to use or diffuse technology into the problem and there is also poor infrastructure development that is necessary for compliance with the trade rules", he said.
