Govt needs P7.3bn for roads - Swartz

Government needs P7.3 billion to be spent on new road infrastructure developments as well as to maintain the existing ones in the next seven years.

Presenting his budget proposals for National Development Plan 10 (NDP) in Parliament yesterday, Minister of Works and Transport Johnnie Swartz said that major roads would be constructed during NDP 10 among them the dualling of the deadly Gaborone-Boatle, Tlokweng bypass, Greater Gaborone improvements, Molepolole-Lentsweletau, and Bokspits-Struizendam roads. "The programme also includes completion of the projects which commenced during NDP9," he said.

Swartz revealed that other infrastructure, such as weighbridges, will be built along major roads across the country, as well as construction of staff houses.  The project will also cost government P233million.
