SELEBI-PHIKWE: Residents of Selebi Phikwe have informed the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Kenneth Matambo that for Selebi-Phikwe to move forward, the government must invest in the town.

The advice came during a Kgotla meeting at Kagiso last week by one of the residents, Moeti Mohwasa, who said there were many projects that were planned for the town but have not been undertaken. He gave an example of a road that connects Selebi-Phikwe and Tonota saying it could have been an ideal short cut to Francistown.

He also said the Sefophe-Martins Drift road was in a bad condition. He explained that the roads could have made more people pass through the town and at the same time contribute to its economy. Mohwasa went on to say that it was a concern to see BCL mine getting most of their supplies outside Selebi-Phikwe. He stated that residents of the town do not benefit anything from the mine besides sulphur emissions that affect their health.
