Gerald Estate police appeal to public to identify corpse

FRANCISTOWN: Gerald Estate police are appealing to the public to help them identify the corpse of a man found hanging from a tree on Saturday. The assistant commander of the police station, Assistant Superintendent Ontiretse Ditshweu said yesterday that they could not identify the middle-aged man because he had no identification on him.

"We do not know where this man might originate from. When we found him, he did not have anything that can help us identify him. We tried to search him but he was not in possession of anything even an Identity Card or cell phone," he said.

Ditshweu said they were tipped off  about the incident by three men who were looking for their cattle around BOCCIM Fairgrounds in Gerald Estate. "The people who were looking for cattle reported to us that they saw something like a person hanging from a tree and we went to the scene and saw the body," he said. He said it appeared the trouser of the deceased was torn and used to make a rope for the hanging.
