When it comes to sophisticated building structures, Gaborone can claim progress after 41 years of independence.

Some of the notable structures in recent years are the Riverwalk Mall, Game City and Molapo Crossing. The fast-growing city is earmarked for more architectural masterpieces in the next few years as the country prepares for the 2010 World Cup in neighbouring South Africa. Among others, Botswana intends to construct five star hotels to accommodate soccer fans for the World Cup. Then there is the under-construction shopping and office complex called the Square and the Gateway. Gulaam Abdoola, executive chairman of the GH Group says the magnificent and unique 10-storey building coming up at the Central Business District (CBD) will give Gaborone a new identity.

"We want it to set the standard, to be the pace-setter for similar projects in future," Abdoola told Monitor. He says the building will be complete by March. Another shopping mall is scheduled for completion by August next year. Both will cost P100 million.
