Gaborone Rubbish Dump A Killer

Gaborone City Council (GCC) has confessed that the lifespan of the Gaborone landfill expired four years ago. The life span of a landfill is 10 years.

The GCC Principal Health Officer, Greger Lepang has confirmed that a new dumping site has been identified. He cited consultations with various stakeholders as one of the main reasons it took long to identify a suitable place.

"The life span of the landfill is 10 years. But because of our consultation with stakeholders it took some time to find a suitable place for another landfill. What I can tell you is that another new landfill is under construction at Kwagamodubu in the South East District,' he said.
