Funeral Rituals Make Way For Kgosi Linchwe

The first funeral ritual to make way for the Bakgatla paramount chief on Friday was the reception of the corpse (go amogela serepa). Usually the mourning community waits for the remains at his home, singing hymns. It was not so with the Bakgatla monarch.
He arrived from a Gaborone mortuary in full speed straight to his royal home, Kwa Ntsweng, without fanfare or a crowd. The huge throng was waiting at the Kgotla and was informed minutes later that their Kgosi had arrived at Kwa Ntsweng.
The next Tswana ritual to go at Kgosi Linchwe's funeral was the night vigil. Traditionally, multitudes would stay all night long at the deceased's place, singing hymns and saying all the good things they remember about that person who has died.
