Kalahari Resources Development Company has signed a memorandum of agreement with the Shoshong Constituency Development Trust to deliver four solar power stations to the area. Area MP Phillip Makgalemele who is also the chairman of the Trust signed on behalf of the community.

Morteza Abkenari,  CEO and chairman of  Kgalagadi Resources Development Company trading as solar power, says they found it easier to work with the people of Shoshong as a technical partner, rather than approaching the Botswana Power Corporation(BPC) directly as a company.

Abkenari, who says his company has been in Botswana for 38 years now, says they have in the past tried without success convincing the BPC to sign a power purchase agreement with them to provide solar energy. However, Abkenari  hopes that with the project now being pursued by the people, it may be easier for government  and the BPC to support the efforts of the Shoshong development trust and purchase power from the Trust.
