Flustered witness swears to God

A state witness in a murder trial David Ramaeba swore to God on Friday, telling the court that his employer Victor Sebina came to the farm on the morning of May 21, 2011 demanding keys for the warehouse in which a person, who died later, was found naked and unconscious.

Defence lawyer Sidney Pilane was cross-examining Ramaeba, who became impatient with the line of questioning.Perhaps fed up with advocate Pilane, Ramaeba swore, "Kare ke Sebina ke ene a neng a batla dikey mo go nna.  Ke ikana ka Modimo, Jesu Keresete," he said facing up, with both hands raised in the air, index fingers pointing up.Ramaeba is the third witness to be called and he said that morning, Sebina came in his Toyota Double cab demanding keys for a warehouse on the farm, just before 7am. He said that he handed the keys to Sebina who left a few minutes later saying he was going to Mochudi. He said that there were two other occupants in Sebina's vehicle.

Pilane put it to him that Sebina was going to tell the court that he never requested for any keys from him, to which Ramaeba, who was visibly losing patience, insisted that it was Sebina he gave the keys to. "Why would I just go and take the keys out of my own volition?" he asked the court. Pilane advised him to calm down. He said that there was no need for Sebina to demand the keys since the warehouse/storeroom was not locked because there was nothing valuable kept there, except for cattle feeds and decorating stones.Pilane asked the witness again if he was aware that Sebina had younger brothers who owned white double cabs, to which the witness said he did not know. Pilane asked the witness if he could confirm that it wasn't one of the brothers driving the white double cab, and that's when the witness swore to God. It's not clear whether it was out of fear of the man's mentioning of God that Pilane stopped cross examining him.
