FRANCISTOWN: For the first time in 13 years, Francistown City Council has managed to allocate 1,055 residential plots at Gerald Estate. The last plots allocation in the city was done in 2000, also at Gerald Estate.

Speaking with the city Mayor, James Kgalajwe he said the recent allocation started at the beginning of this month, with 1,012 plots allocated and 43 reserved to be allocated to homes that will be affected by the construction of the Tonota/Francistown road. Prior to the allocation, orientation was conducted for the potential plot owners.

"Allocation was given to applications from as far back as 1988, but there is still a huge waiting list from all those years. It is a big challenge for us that we are allocating plots to people who applied decades back," said Kgalajwe.Among those given plots are those who applied between 1989 to 1991, he noted. He further said even though the waiting list is still huge, people are still continuing with the application for plots because the demand for plots in the city is equally high.
