False prophet remanded for raping and robbing female 'client'

Extension 2 Senior Magistrate Abigail Masawi has remanded a false prophet in custody for rape and obtaining by false pretences pending police investigations.

According to the particulars of the offence, Oduetse Mooketsi, 27, and another accused still at large, on January 11, 2011, behind Cresta Lodge in the Gaborone Administrative District, had unlawful carnal knowledge of a woman (name withheld) without her consent. The accused person and his fugitive partner also fraudulently obtained four cell phones, valued at P1,000, from the complainant. It is alleged that on the fateful day, the accused persons approached the victim and convinced her that they were sent by God to help her solve her  life problems. They claimed that the only way to assist her was for them to pray for her at a neutral place. After convincing her, they led the unsuspecting woman in the bush behind Cresta Lodge upon which the accused gave his alleged accomplish a concoction to drink and told him to administer the herb sexually, as they claimed that she had some Thokolosi eggs in her womb. After administering the herb sexually, the two are alleged to have demanded that the victim bring to them four cell phones so they could bless them. The accused persons then took all the cell phones and demanded more money from their victim who promised to pay them for their services the following day. When the victim arrived home, she became worried because the prophet did not use any protection during the sexual healing process and she reported the matter at Urban police station. The victim with the help of the police then called the perpetrators promising them more money. Mooketsi was then arrested while his partner in crime disappeared and is still at large. Police investigations are continuing while case will be brought for another mention on January 28. (Sila Press Agency)
