Ex-Revenue Clerk Denies Theft Charge

Gobona Gareotsene, 49, a senior transport officer at the Kweneng District Council (KDC) has been slapped with 47 counts of stealing P30, 000, while she was temporarily employed as a revenue officer.

Appearing before Gaborone Village magistrate Olivier Zvedi, Gareotsene pleaded not guilty to the charges. She is alleged to have stolen the money between September 2003 and January 2004.

Gareotsene has pleaded not guilty to the charges and indicated that she intends to seek legal representation. Sub-inspector Mogakolodi Pakati confirmed before Zvedi that the state is ready to go for trial on July 2-4.
