Ex-BCP Cllr's Dual Membership

SELEBI-PHIKWE: A former Botswana Congress Party (BCP) councillor who recently registered to contest the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) primary elections in Motlhabaneng ward in the Bobirwa constituency once held dual membership.

The BDP constituency committee threw out Modise 'Super' Thipe's application to contest as the party's candidate. Thipe, a former Botshabelo Central councillor, defected from the BCP to the BDP in 2003. After the 2004 general election, Thipe returned to the BCP and re-registered as a member.

Despite being issued with a membership card, the regional leadership refused to recognise him as a BCP member. Last November, Thipe registered for the BCP primary elections in Botshabelo Central.
