Duo charged for unlawful possession of firearm

FRANCISTOWN: Two people were arraigned before court for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition yesterday.

In the first count, the state alleges that Richard William Dalton, 61, a Branch Manager at Builders Merchants Botswana and Minolta Lemmenyane, 26, who is unemployed, were unlawfully found in possession of a firearm on March 1, 2013 at Block 8 in Francistown. According to the particulars of the offence, the duo were found in possession of a 22 Hornet rifle serial number 1401153 model 151 ZKK-600 and 45 ACP Griffon pistol serial number RSA 61022 at Block 8.Pleas in the matter have been reserved until the next mention.

In the second count, the state alleges that the two acting together with common purpose were found in possession of ammunition on March 1, 2013 at Block 8 here. The defence attorney, Tshekiso Tshekiso submitted that the duo be granted bail. He begged the court to grant them bail on condition that they surrender their traveling documents, reside within the country and consult the state, should there be a need for them to travel outside the country and attend court as and when needed.Prosecutor Lapologang Moatshe did not object to the duo being granted bail. At the end of the mention, Principal Magistrate Peggy Madandume granted the accused bail on conditions applied for by the defence attorney.
