DPP drops Matambo charges?

The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is reported to be contemplating dropping corruption charges against the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Kenneth Matambo.

A lawyer at DPP, who preferred not to be named, confided in Mmegi a week ago that the state was in a serious dilemma - of continuing with the "illegitimate" prosecution and thereafter having to face the embarrassment of losing it in court or withdrawing the charges.

Since Matambo was charged early this year, the state has failed to provide the defence team with relevant details, amongst them the real charges and the testimony of its witnesses, something which has not gone down well with his defence team.
