Residents and police officers from Naledi in Gaborone South converged on the Broadhurst Magistrates Court for the second day of the case in which former Botswana National Front (BNF) executive secretary James Mathokgwane is facing charges of defiling a 9-year old girl.

Submitting evidence for the state, Sub-Inspector Fredrick Magapatona said he came to know of the accused when his cellphone, which was found at the scene of the alleged crime, rang and the caller asked to speak to Mathokgwane.

At the crime scene, Magapatona said along with the phone, he found a light-blue girls' underwear, a black kid's pair of trousers and two pieces of bloodstained toilet paper.
"The caller asked me where I was, and I said am not the owner of the phone," he said, adding that after discovering that he was not the owner of the phone, the caller asked who he was: "She mentioned (the name) James Mathokgwane," Magapatone said.
