Ditshwanelo opposes naming and shaming of paedophiles

Ditshwanelo - the Botswana Centre for Human Rights has said naming and shaming offenders is not an appropriate measure to curb paedophilia.

Emily Ruhukwa, a Ditshwanelo Children's Rights Programme Coordinator said they believe in the inherent dignity of all persons regardless of the type of offence they have committed."We, however, wish to emphasise that we do not condone the acts committed by paedophiles," she said.

Currently, there is a worldwide debate on whether naming and shaming paedophiles would curb the crime. Ruhukwa said the public need to be educated on issues related to child abuse and the risk factors.
