Dikgosi ignorant of salaries commission

Some members of Ntlo ya Dikgosi have expressed ignorance about the appointment of a commission to look into the pay and conditions of service of political and traditional leaders. The commission will look into the salaries, conditions of service and other entitlements for the President, the Vice President, the Speaker, Ministers, Assistant Ministers, the Deputy Speaker, the Leader of the Opposition, MPs, members of Ntlo ya Dikgosi and councillors scheduled.

It is scheduled to start work on Monday but Kgosi Mosadi Seboko of Balete told Mmegi that Ntlo ya Dikgosi has not been briefed about it. She said that she got to know about the commission through the media. She said she cannot talk about the commission because Ntlo ya Dikgosi has not been briefed on it. Kgosi Kgari Sechele of Bakwena had same problems in commenting on what the commission should address since he did not know its terms of reference.

However, Kgosi Letlaamoreng of Barolong said the terms for such a commission is not a big issue to him since he lives with the problems it is meant to address. He cited the issue if accommodation for members of Ntlo ya Dikgosi. "Those parliamentary flats were initially built for us and Members of Parliament but we were just ordered to vacate them without any explanation.  We are now paid P3,000 as housing allowance, which is not enough looking at the high cost of hotels in Gaborone.
