DCEC and DSI fight reaches crisis point?

The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) has expressed reluctance to continue with the multi-million Central Medical Stores (CMS) case because of a clash with the newly formed government security intelligence outfit.

It is reported that the new Directorate of Security Intelligence (DSI) has irked the DCEC by moving to take over the case where government was defrauded of millions through corrupt dealings at the CMS. The DCEC was said to be on the verge of wrapping up investigations on the case ,but now there is a feeling that the DSI wants to muscle its way in and claim credit.

Mmegi has learnt that the DSI's approach on the case was viewed with disapproval, especially since the DCEC saw itself as having done all the legwork. DCEC officers involved in the case questioned the methods used by the DSI. They felt the DSI's approach was going to compromise the investigations. DSI officials, sources reveal, arrested the suspects without informing the DCEC. This irked the DCEC officers engaged in the case. The two institutions are said to be at a stalemate regarding the way forward in the case.
