Crime rates decrease in the north

FRANCISTOWN: It seems efforts of the Botswana Police to reduce crime during the festive season were successful as shown by the significant decrease in the Northern Division.

Deputy Divisional Commander North, Dinah Maratha, says that crime in the north was "low". Maratha said that in comparison to the previous festive seasons, the most recent holidays recorded the lowest numbers.

"In 2009, there were high numbers of burglaries and housebreaking which have reduced this year. The only offences that are still of major concern are rape and suicide which although they concern us they also have also decreased," she says.
