Court examines Modise's criminal fingerprints

The Village Magistrates' Court yesterday heard that Gaborone businessman, Jeremiah Modise, was convicted of possessing of a firearm on October 20, 1989 in Gaborone. It was further revealed that he paid P100 admission of guilt fee and the fingerprints that were found in the government criminal bureau records were identical to Modise's fingerprints taken in January this year.

Modise admitted that the 1989 fingerprints were his but said he was not involved in any crime.  He was not charged. He was not fined and he was never brought before any court.

He said that he found the gun in a shack near his house in Extension 27 and he took it to the police.  He said that three days later, the police called him to take his fingerprints.
