Couples Test For HIV In Mogoditshane

It is commonly known that men are reluctant to go for HIV/AIDS tests. But the situation was different last Saturday when couples, married and unmarried gathered for the first time to receive counseling and undergo HIV/AIDS tests in Mogoditshane.

It seemed that many of the couples came to test of the initiative of the male partner. The MP for Mogoditshane Patrick Masimolole told the gathering that unfortunately trends in Botswana and elsewhere show that couples are not eager to test together.  He said that only 15 percent of people who go for voluntary counselling and testing are couples.

He said the importance of testing together is that it reduces the risk of infecting the HIV negative partner. "Even importantly, the negative partner will be able to lend support in the form of care and helping the positive partner to adhere to treatment," he said.
