Cllrs Seek Beer Law Repeal

The opposition, which is enjoying numerical strength in Gaborone intends to lead a delegation of traditional beer traders and industry to the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dorcas Makgato-Malesu to ask her to repeal the newly introduced traditional beer law, because it has caused stress among traders.

Botswana Congress Party (BCP) councillor Ndiwaani Kenosi is expected to present a motion at the Gaborone City Council (GCC) asking the house to resolve that the mayor and his deputy should lead a delegation of councillors, traditional beer traders and industry to the Ministry of Trade and Industry to ask for the new Traditional Liquor Act to be repealed. Kenosi is expected to present the motion this week as the city council convenes for a full council meeting.

The councillor wants the mayor Haskins Nkaigwa and the deputy mayor Florence Shagwa to lead the delegation to Makgato-Malesu to ask her to set aside the new traditional liquor law indefinitely.
