Cllrs protest stalled stadium construction

FRANCISTOWN: The Francistown City Council (FCC) full meeting which ends today saw councillors raising concern at the slow progress of the construction of the stadium here.

The civic leaders complained that Chinese companies continue to win lucrative tenders in spite of their failure to complete projects on schedule.They said it is time projects are awarded to other companies because Batswana do not even benefit from Chinese-won projects as they bring labour from China.

The councillors were responding to a presentation of the Urban Development Committee (UDC) by the district officer Boyce Mangole, who announced that there is still no progress towards the completion of the stadium.He said the project started on March 17, 2008 and was supposed to be completed on January 6, 2010.
