Civil society mulls over Security Bill

Just two days after President Festus Mogae had lashed at fellow Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) MPs for being critical of government when they should see themselves as a collective two BDP MPs broke ranks and remained true to their conscience when they joined the civil society to seek ways of 'killing' ill-fated intelligence and security bill.

Maverick Mps Keletso Rakhudu of Gaborone North and Duke Lefhoko of Shoshong were part of Botswana Council of Non Govermenatal Organisation (BOCONGO) emergency meeting that had been called to discuss the controversial Security and Intelligence Bill in Gaborone yesterday. 

The bill is due for the third reading anytime following on its somewhat contentious adoption by Parliament last week. Yesterday's meeting was called to discuss the ways forward. It was meant to find ways of influencing improvements on the bill to address issues of concern to the civil society and the public in general.
