CID arson suspect arrested

FRANCISTOWN: Tutume police have acted swiftly to arrest a 30-year-old man suspected of burning down the local Criminal Investigations Department (CID) office on Friday.

The man, who has a house break-in case, was nabbed on the same day the CID office was gutted down in Tutume. Rescuers could not salvage anything from the office as everything was reduced to ash and char.Officer Commanding District No 1, Senior Superintendent Alakanani Makobo on Monday confirmed the arrest and that the man who originates from Senete has a house break-in case before the courts. He was arrested and charged with the house break-in offence in January this year in Senete.  Makobo said after the office was burnt their investigations entailed contacting everyone who had a recent case or was a suspect in a recent offence and by so doing they managed to arrest the house break-in suspect. He however could not be drawn into giving further details but rather said they investigated the matter and decided to arrest him.  "I cannot disclose why we say he is the one who burnt the office but the police did their investigations and managed to arrest him that same day. "He will appear at the Masunga Magistrate Court this week to face charges of arson," said Makobo. He added that they are still to establish the value of the computers and other properties that were in the office. "All the criminal files even the computers in that office were all burnt in the inferno," he said.
