Chiluba's MMD return raises eyebrows

NDOLA: There are mixed feelings regarding the dramatic comeback of Zambia 's second president Frederick Chiluba to the ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD).

After president Levy Mwanawasa assumed power in 2002, he formed the Task Force on Corruption (which has since been disbanded) in order to prosecute Chiluba and others on charges of corruption.

Chiluba was charged with theft of US $ 500 million by public servant together with others who have since been convicted and jailed. In his ruling, the magistrate stated that Chiluba was not a civil servant so the case of theft by public servant could not stand.
