Change f/town street names - councillors

FRANCISTOWN: Councillors have called for a review of street names, to give them meaning and make them compatible with the country's history. Speaking at a full council meeting on Friday the councillors said street names should have meaning to Batswana and enhance national identity.

The man who tabled the motion, James Kgalajwe of Satellite North said that street names in Francistown, especially in the Central District, are technical with some reflecting nothing but the history of the colonial master.

He said in the history of Francistown since its founding in 1895, there is nothing that represents the landowners and all street names are foreign.
